Tops Clark in Season Opener
Patrick Mulvey scores career high in victory
AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Junior guard Patrick Mulvey (Rye, NH) scored a career high 32 points as the Lord Jeffs (1-0) took control down the stretch and routed the visiting Clark University Cougars (1-2). Clark had Amherst on the ropes early in the first before Mulvey got hot. The spirited guard went four-for-four to close out the half and supplied the Jeffs with a slim 34-32 halftime lead.
Amherst came out firing on all cylinders in the second. Riding the momentum from a 13-2 run after the break, helped out by two three-pointers from Mulvey, the Jeffs took the lead for good coasted home for the 90-78 victory. Junior forward Chris Smith (Swarthmore, PA) notched a double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds) while sophomore point-man Brian Daoust (Dover, MA), fresh off the football field where he was just named 1st- Team All-ECAC at cornerback, came off the bench to pour in 13 points (8/8 from the line).
Amherst travels to Massachusetts College this Saturday for a 2:00 tip-off.
