Amherst Defeats Maine, 5-1
Jeffs Earn First-Ever ECAC Alliance Victory

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) notched a hat trick to lead Amherst to its first-ever ECAC Alliance League victory in the three-year history of the varsity program. All the wins posted to date by Amherst women's hockey had been against non-conference teams.

The Jeffs jumped out to a 1-0 lead 3:36 into the contest on a goal by senior Margaret Seiler (Louisville, KY). The Black Bears equalized late in the period on a shot by Alison Lorenz (Brewer, ME) from Jamie Schofield (Freeport, ME). Just 24 seconds later Bowe tallied her first score of the night to lead Amherst to four unanswered goals toward the Jeffs' second-straight victory of the season.

Bowe had what seemed to be an instant replay as she turned another Jess Frisch (Bethesda, MD) feed into a goal. Frisch (Bethesda, MD) registered a goal and three assists for the Jeffs, as netminder Cindy Matsushita (Bronx, NY) made 22 saves for the victory. Black Bear keeper Sarah Dolan (Wayland, MA) warded off 34 Amherst shots.

The Jeffs even their record to 2-2 overall, 1-2 in the ECAC Alliance. Maine falls to 1-3-1 overall, 0-3-1 Alliance. The Black Bears travel to Williams for a 2:00pm meeting tomorrow, while Amherst is idle until a January 10th showdown at Bates.
