BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bowdoin College junior Sue Bernard (Goffstown, N.H.) made 28 saves to record her second straight shutout, helping the Polar Bears beat Amherst, 1-0, in ECAC Alliance action on Sunday afternoon. Bernard ups her conecutive scoreless minutes streak to 124:07 after blanking Williams yesterday, 4-0.
Bowdoin (9-9-1, 8-5-1 ECAC Alliance) came out strong to start the game, outshooting Amherst (7-9-1, 2-9-1) 16-3 in the first frame. The Lady Jeffs answered in the second period, holding a 14-8 advantage in shots, although neither team could score in the first two periods.
After a back-and-forth third period, the Polar Bears finally struck as Emily Ewell (Meredith, N.H.) poked in the puck during a scramble in front of the net. Liz MacNeil (Lincoln, Mass.) and Caitlin Riley (Yarmouth, Maine) picked up assists on the play. Cindy Matsushita (Bronx, N.Y.) played well in net for Amherst, saving 34 of the 35 shots she faced.
