AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Jess Frisch (Bethesda, MD), a senior co-captain of the Amherst College women's ice hockey team, was named the ECAC Alliance Player of the Week for games through Sunday, January 25, 1998. Teammate Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) also earned her third recognition by the ECAC as a member of the Honor Roll.
Frisch spearheaded the Amherst attack in the Jeffs' second-ever Alliance victory, a 10-3 decision at Connecticut College. The forward tallied two assists and four goals, including her second power play goal of the season. Frisch followed up the next day at Wesleyan with a goal and a pair of assists in Amherst's six-goal rally from a 7-0 deficit late in the second period. While the Jeffs fell 7-6 to the Cardinals, Frisch's nine points from the weekend allowed the senior remain the leading scorer in the Alliance with 23 points (11g, 12a), 38 points (19g, 19a) overall.
Bowe makes her second straight appearance on the ECAC Honor Roll for three goals and an assist over the weekend following a hat trick against Williams to force a 3-3 overtime tie between the archrivals. The rookie scored all three goals against the Ephs in the third period after trailing 2-0 in the first intermission. Bowe currently boasts 33 points (20g, 13a) as second to Frisch in overall scoring.
Amherst women's ice hockey is currently 5-4-1 on the season, 2-4-1 in the ECAC Alliance. The Jeffs have recently turned up their goal-production for weekend games as Amherst has tallied 22 and 16 goals in the last two weekends.
