Bowdoin Bounces Amherst, 69-50

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- First-year Lauren Myers (South Boston, Mass) scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as the Bowdoin College Polar Bears defeated the Amherst Lady Jeffs by a score of 69-50. Myers hit eight of her 14 shots from the floor while also grabbing eight rebounds. Captain Andrea Little (York, Maine) helped out with 13 points, 10 steals, six rebounds, and five assists in the winning effort.

Both teams shot poorly in the first half, but Bowdoin came out firing in the second. Using a tenacious full-court press, the Bears converted three consecutive steals into layups to take a seven-point lead. Amherst made a run midway through the half, but could not contain Myers, who connected on all seven of her second-half field goal attempts, the last of which put Bowdoin up 17 with 1:30 remaining.

The Lady Jeffs were led by Janinne Noel (Dalton, Mass.), who scored 16 points, and Sarah Rinaldi (Washington, D.C.), who added 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Amherst turned the ball over 36 times in the contest.
