Springfield Edges Out Amherst, 63-61

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts -- Senior guard Katrina Olmsted's (Scarborough, ME) layup with 8.4 seconds left gave host Springfield College a come-from-behind 63-61 victory over Amherst College Saturday. The Pride improve its record to 10-6 while Amherst drops to 8-4.

Springfield trailed 48-41 midway through the second half before going ahead 53-52 on Olmsted's basket with 7:11 remaining. Amherst went ahead 58-56 on a basket by center Sarah Rinaldi (Washington, DC) with 4:02 left.

Forward Donna Masterson (Narraganett, RI) made a three-point field goal that game the Pride a 61-58 margin with 57.2 seconds left, but the Lord Jeffs tied the contest at 61 on a basket by guard Meg Riley (Wellesley, MA) with 29.2 seconds remaining.

Masterson led Springfield with 21 points while center Kim Gilbert (Holden, MA) had 11 points and seven rebounds. Amherst guard Janinne Noel (Dalton, MA) played a great game, scoring a career high 23 points and making 6-of-10 three-pointers, a feat that broke her own record for most in a game. The former Dalton Waconah Regional standout also had four assists.

Amherst hurt itself by making only 10 of 21 foul shots.
