Amherst Defeats Albertus Magnus, 69-51

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst went on a 22-2 run early in the second half toward a 69-51 victory over Albertus Magnus in LeFrak Gymnasium. The two teams had played a close first half, trading baskets and turnovers so that neither team led by more than four points. Dianna Burroughs (West Haven, CT) drove the lane for Albertus to send both teams into the locker room deadlocked at 28.

Dacia Walker (Leominster, MA) notched the first of five Amherst three-pointers to jump-start the Jeffs' second half scoring frenzy. The sophomore's second score from behind the arc gave Amherst its biggest lead of the night at 20 with 11:47 to play. Albertus chipped into the Jeff advantage off a handful of fouls.

Denise Brace (Windsor Locks, CT) finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds for the Falcons. Burroughs and Lauren Aloi (West Haven, CT) each contributed 10 for Albertus. Katie Hersey (Westford, MA) claimed her fifth double-double of her junior season with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, nine of them on the offensive glass. Sarah Rinaldi (Washington, DC) added 12 points and 9 boards to the winning effort, while Naomi Sullivan (Hudson, MA) dished out six assists with her 10 points and 8 boards.

Amherst improves to 6-1 and will travel to Babson on Thursday. Albertus Magnus evens its record to 6-6.
