Williams Edges Amherst 2-1 in OT

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Jon Collins (Saugus, MA) notched his second goal of the day on a breakaway to hand Williams a 2-1 victory over archrival Amherst in overtime. The teams had been deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation to force sudden death.

The Ephs tallied first 7:41 into the second period as seniors Phil Deguire (Milford, MA) and Dan Bullock (Canton, NY) connected with Collins for a 1-0 Williams lead. Less than three minutes later, Amherst's Matt Rogers (Excelsior, MN) equalized with the help of tri-captain Doug Erickson (North Billerica, MA) and fellow senior Tom Carideo (Winthrop, MA).

Both teams went scoreless in the final period as the keepers combined for 19 saves. Amherst netminder Chris Addesa (North Andover, MA) tallied 35 stops while Eph keeper David Haimson (St. Laurent, PQ) made 33 saves.

Williams betters its record to 5-1 overall, 4-0 ECAC-East as the top team and only undefeated squad in the league. Amherst falls to 4-2, 3-1 ECAC-East. The Jeffs will travel to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (formerly North Adams State) on Wednesday, while the Ephs are idle until January 3 when they face American International College (AIC) in the Western Mass. Tourney at Amherst.
