WORCESTER, Massachusetts -- Holy Cross improved to 6-4-1 on the season and ended a three-game losing streak to Amherst (6-4-1) by posting its second shutout of the season, 5-0. Crusader goalie Tom Ormondroyd (Worcester, MA) stopped 22 shots for his second shutout this season.
Joe Cavanaugh (Warwick, RI) provided all the scoring the Crusaders would need in the first with a tip in on a power play at 10:25 from Brett Cagiluso (Methuen, MA). Bill Link (Acton, MA) made it 2-0 in favor of the Crusaders with an unassisted goal at 37 seconds into the second period from the right point.
Kevin Dwyer (Amesbury, MA) slid one just under Amherst goalie Chris Addesa (Andover, MA - 19 saves) to make it 3-0 at 14:25 of the second. Holy Cross scored twice more in the third, including a power play goal from Jesse Sullivan (Medfield, MA) with 1:41 remaining in the game.
Holy Cross returns to action next weekend when they travel to Southern Maine and Salem State. Amherst heads to Babson and UMass-Boston this weekend.
