Amherst Rolls to 5-0 with 96-71 Win at WNEC

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts -- Four players posted double figures in Amherst's 96-71 win at Western New England College. The Jeffs push their record to 5-0 before the holiday break. They will be back in action on Tuesday, January 6 at Johnson & Wales.

Amherst used a 14-0 run early in the first half to take a 25-8 lead at the 12:26 mark. The Jeffs stretched their lead to 27 late in the half as Chris Ingraham (Tuscon, AZ) hooked in a rebound off a Josh Anish (Huntingdon Valley, PA) free throw. The pair combined for 21 of the Jeffs' 45 points off the bench. Amherst forced 15 first-half turnovers.

Taking a 50-31 lead into halftime, the Jeffs improved on their 53.8% shooting in the first as they sank 69.2% of their shots in the second. Amherst roared out of the locker room to drill four of their nine three-pointers in the first six minutes. Senior Julian "Bubba" Rowand (Washington, DC) tallied 11 in the outing, while fellow captain John Pavelski (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) added a game-high 14. Pavelski moves into ninth place on Amherst's all-time scoring list, surpassing Dan Moses '96 with 1,182 points.

Amherst dished out 19 assists, including five by Caith Chapman (Maumee, OH). Western New England falls to 0-8 for the season.
