Amherst Defeats Colby, 83-67

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Pat Mulvey (Rye, NH) registered a career-high 28 points to lead Amherst College (15-2) to an 83-67 victory over Colby College (12-7). Amherst improves to 4-2 in the NESCAC while Colby falls to 4-4.

The White Mules jumped out to a 10-5 lead on the 3-point shooting of Ken Allen (Monson, ME) and James Spidle (Easton, MA). But the Jeffs mounted a 14-0 run over seven minutes to capture the lead with the return of a healthy John Pavelski (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ), who had missed or played injured the last five games. Mulvey drained four of his five threes in the first half as the Jeffs would lead 37-29 at the break.

An aggressive Colby defense cut the lead to four on a Spidle jumper with 13:30 left to play, but a series of Mule fouls sent senior Billy Skorupski (North Hatfield, MA) to the line 16 times for 14 of his 20 points. Skorupski also pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds, 11 in the second half.

The Jeffs led by as much as 17 late in the game. Allen led the way for the Mules with 27 points, including five threes, while Spidle pulled down a team-high 11 boards. Amherst made five blocks while Colby had six steals for the night.
