Amherst Edges out Trinity
Lord Jeffs post best-start ever with 11th straight win

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Pat Mulvey (Rye, NH) had a team-high 15 points to lead Amherst to an 82-68 victory over Trinity College. This gives Amherst its 11th straight win and an 11-0 record as the best start in the history of Amherst basketball. The Jeffs are currently No. 5 in the nation while Trinity, now 9-2, is the country's 9th best team.

The Bantams jumped out to an early lead behind swarming defense and poor Amherst shooting. A three-pointer by Julian Rowand (Washington, DC) sparked an Amherst run that would give the Jeffs a 33-31 lead at the break.

Trinity continued its aggressive play throughout the second half as Jason Levin (Los Angeles, CA) muscled his was in for 14 points. But with 11:23 to play in the game, Timothy Lynch (Ansonia, CT) was called for a technical foul, and a pair of free throws by rookie Brian Daoust (Dover, MA) gave the Jeffs the lead for good. Amherst registered five players in double figures while Trinity was whistled for 16 more fouls than the Jeffs, who sank 27 of 37 from the line.

Bantam Kevin Bednar (Boonton, NJ) led all scorers with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Lord Jeff Billy Skorupski (North Hatfield, MA) contributed 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for Amherst. The Jeffs next host Babson on Tuesday while Trinity travels to Suffolk on Saturday.
