Amherst Defeats Tufts, 11-9

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Jen Corso (Collingswood, NJ) fired off three of Amherst's final four goals late in the second half to power Amherst College (6-2) to an 11-9 victory over Tufts University (6-4-1). Amherst next travels to Little III rival Wesleyan for a 12:00pm meeting on Saturday while Tufts travels to Colby on Saturday.

The Jumbos had taken a 3-1 lead less than ten minutes into the match before Amherst claimed its first lead, 4-3, with 7:49 left in the first half on a goal by sophomore Katherine Poulin (St. Davids, PA). Tufts regained an edge at 5-4 with 5:42 before the break on a Robin Zimmerly (Glenwood, MA) tally as both teams would trade goals for the next 24 minutes. Rookie Jen Gregorian (Wayland, MA) tallied her second goal of the match for a 6-5 Jumbo lead at the half.

Corso tied the game at 8-8 with 12:24 left on the game clock, and she notched her second goal just four minutes later to give Amherst its final lead. The netminding team of Sarah Evans (Columbus, OH) and Jess Thaxton (Wayland, MA) combined for 12 saves for Amherst while Tufts goalie Hedda Silkoff (Easton, CT) stopped 18 of Amherst's 37 shots.
