AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Liza Feldman (Sudbury, MA) went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to lead Amherst College (19-4) to a 5-1 victory over Clark University (24-7). This is only the second time these teams have met as varsity squads after Clark claimed a 2-1 win in the first round of the 1997 ECAC Tournament.
Feldman blasted her fourth home run of the season for a 1-0 lead after two innings. Pitcher Allison Schwarting (Los Angeles, CA), who had entered the game in the fifth inning, bounced a triple down the rightfield line, and the sophomore came home on an overthrow to extend the lead to 2-0. Amherst boasted a 5-0 lead after six as the Jeffs took advantage of four errors in their final inning. Senior co-captain Jen Shea (Hatfield, MA) earns the win after allowing two hits and no runs in four innings.
Clark fought back in the top of the seventh as Jessica Barber (Hinesburg, VT) reached 1st on an error before scoring the lone run on a sacrifice fly by Annaliese Brasile (Guilford, CT). Senior co-captain Michelle LeGacy (Worcester, MA) pitched a complete game and struck out four.
Amherst next travels to Westfield State for a doubleheader on Thursday at 3:00pm while Clark prepares for the New 8 Tournament, also beginning on Thursday.
