AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Vicki Gonzalez (Miami, FL) went 5-for-7 with four RBI to lead Amherst College (16-4) to a sweep of Norwich University (5-3) in a softball doubleheader on Hill Field. The Jeffs won game one 4-3 in an 8th-inning tiebreaker before claiming a 9-0 victory on the mercy rule in game two.
Game One With Allison Schwarting (Los Angles, CA) on second to lead off the eighth inning tiebreaker, Gonzalez hammered a double deep into leftfield for the game-winning RBI. The centerfielder was 3-for-4 and scored the first Amherst run in the bottom of the first. Norwich tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth as Kylie Williams (Tolland, CT) and Rachel Hurlburt (Northfield, VT) notched a pair of singles toward a pair of runs. The Cadets took the lead after catcher Heather Bevis (Weymouth, MA) walked to lead off the seventh, but a Sandy Accordino (Closter, NJ) single tied the game at 3-3 when she drove in sophomore Darcy Sweeney (Keene, NH) in the bottom of the seventh. Pitcher Schwarting struck out ten while allowing only two hits.

Game Two Liza Feldman (Sudbury, MA) tallied a three-run homer to top off a six-run inning in the Amherst 3rd toward a 9-0 Lord Jeff victory. Jen Shea earned the victory after striking out four and allowing just one hit to Bevis in the top of fifth. Amherst next hosts Mass. College of Liberal Arts, formerly North Adams State, for a doubleheader starting at 3:30pm on Monday.
