AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Three Saturday morning games against Connecticut College equaled three victories for the Lord Jeffs, as the field hockey team, the mens soccer team and the womens soccer team all won decisive victories from the Camels. Men's Soccer The mens soccer team dominated every facet of their Saturday morning showdown with the Camels, extending their season-opening win streak to four games with a 4-0 thrashing of Connecticut College, led by two goals from Captain Matt Diggs '99. Jumping out quickly, the Jeffs trapped the Camels deep in their zone for most of the first half, culminating in a bunch of scoring chances. Finally, in the 37th minute, Diggs opened the scoring with his third goal of the season, staking the Jeffs out to a 1-0 lead. Though the Jeffs would fail to score again in the half, the opening 45 minutes belonged to Amherst. The second half was much the same as the first, with Amherst keeping the Camels trapped deep inside their territory. Seven minutes into the half, Andy Kay '00 tallied his fifth goal of the season off of a Casey Ryan '02 feed, extending the Jeff lead to two. Just over 11 minutes later, Diggs added his second goal of the game (and fourth of the year) off of a beautiful pass from David Michener '02, pushing the Jeffs out to a 3-0 lead. Rob Hill '01 added his first goal in the 75th minute, accounting for the fourth and final of the Jeff goals on the day. For the game, Amherst outshot Connecticut 20-4, and took a team-record 23 corner kicks. The Jeffs (4-0), now look ahead to next Saturday's showdown in Brunswick, Maine, when they face the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College.
