Springfield Defeats Amherst In Overtime

The Pride advance on penalty strokes

 

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Springfield College field hockey team converted the first three penalty strokes while goalie Stephanie Denyko (Bridgewater, Conn.) turned aside the first three penalty strokes of Amherst, helping The Pride advance to the finals of the ECAC tournament with a 1-0 victory. The two teams played 100 minutes but neither team could score forcing penalty strokes.

Abby Perham (Walpole, Mass.), Jen Starek (Holliston, Mass.) and Sarah Kelly (Enfield, N.H.) all converted strokes for Springfield (20-4) to secure the win. Denyko ended the game with 11 saves while Beth Sensing (Hockessin, Del.) made six saves in the loss for Amherst (11-5).
