Westfield State dumped the ball into forward Amanda Braden 19 times to post a 63-55 win at LeFrak Gymnasium. Braden led the Owls with 23 points, followed by center Rachel Sayce with 14 as Westfield State boasted as much as a 12 point lead early in the second half.
A young Amherst team jumped out to an early lead behind four early layups by center Sam Ince '97. But turnovers plagued Amherst near the halftime buzzer as the Lord Jeffs entered the locker room with a ten point deficit. But a strong second half comeback behind freshman guard Liza Feldman brought the Westfield lead down to 6 with 6:41 to play after seven unanswered points by the Jeffs. A jumper by Ince with less than a minute cut the lead to four, but a physical Owl zone forced the remainder of 27 Jeff turnovers to earn their second win of the season.
