Harvard Sneaks by Amherst Men's Squash, 5-4

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- When top-ranked Harvard came to play at No. 3 Amherst, the match came down to the last two games in progress to decide who would add a "W" to its record: Amherst's Evan Khan and Harvard's Andy Walter were tied at two games a piece entering the fifth game of the No. 5 match, while No. 1s David McNeely (Amherst) and Dan Ezra (Harvard) were battling it out with a 2-1 Crimson lead. Just moments after Khan fell 15-12, 15-17, 9-15, 15-9, 11-15, Ezra raised his hands in triumph with a game-winner over McNeely in a 5-4 Harvard decision.

Midway through the evening, Amherst was up 4-2 with wins by No. 2 Kevin Orphan over Tim Wyant, No. 7 David Ford over Williams transfer Dave Beitchman, No. 8 Jamie Ford over Frank Beidler and No. 9 Andrew Snyder over Alex Saltonstall. Through Amherst's 12-2 team record, Snyder has remained a perfect 13-0 on the season. But Harvard rose to its No. 1 standing by claiming wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to preserve the Crimson's undefeated record. Amherst suffers only its second loss of the season in the Jeffs' best showing against Harvard ever.
