AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Finishing the regular season with a 14-9-1 record overall, Amherst men's ice hockey's 11-7-1 ECAC East record was enough to merit a 5th seed in this year's post season tournament. They will travel to Colby this Saturday for a first round game at 7:00pm.
Amherst began the season by splitting their first four weekends of games before mounting an eight-game win-streak that ranked the Jeffs among the top-ten Division III teams in the nation. With a pair of wins over Williams and Wesleyan, Amherst took home its first Little III title in a decade before concluding the regular season with a 4-4 overtime tie with Middlebury, the top ranked team in the league and the defending national champion.
Offensively, the Jeffs have been led by sophomores Charlie Blyth (17 goals, 22 assists, 39 points) and Rob MacDonald (17 goals, 18 assists, 35 points), plus junior Mike Noone (14 goals, 20 assists, 34 points). Minding the net are Co-Captain Joe Branca (87.6 save percentage, 3.82 GAA) and sophomore Chris Addesa (89.9 save percentage, 2.84 GAA).
Amherst has had much recent success in the ECAC Tournament. Last year, the Jeffs won the ECAC East Tournament as the No. 6 team, as they hope to repeat this year to defend their title.
