Amherst relied on five players scoring in double digits to post a 112-68 win over Clark University. John Pavelski '98 lead the Jeffs with 19 points including 4-9 from 3-point range as Amherst led by as much as 46 late in the game.
Clark was plagued by 30 turnovers and 26 fouls to send Amherst to the line 33 times. The Jeffs went on a 9-0 run late in the first half to enter halftime with a 53-32 lead. As the Cougars got into foul trouble early in the second half, Amherst increased its lead off the savvy defensive pressure of Chris Ingraham '99 and rookie Hugh Quattlebaum '00. Quattlebaum was only one of three Amherst players with three steals on the night.
Keenan Smith of Clark led the Cougars with 14 points, followed by John Casey with 12. Nick Zauner pulled down 9 of Clark's 35 rebounds, but Amherst's 52 gave the Jeffs an edge, especially with their 25 offensive boards to generate a series of second-chance points.
