Men's Basketball Defeats Skidmore

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Jamal Wilson scored 38 points to lead Amherst to a 77-74 win over Skidmore. Wilson scored 13 straight Jeff points late in the first half to give Amherst the lead at 32 31 after the teams flip-flopped throughout the first 16 minutes of play before Amherst took a 40-36 lead into the locker room.

Trailing by as much as 11 in the second half, Skidmore mounted a comeback behind its 16 22 shooting from the line as Amherst was whistled for 17 fouls. A pair of free throws and a jumper by Chad Kasdin with under 30 seconds to play brought the Thoroughbreds within a basket of the Jeffs. David Burch had a chance to send the game into overtime with a 3 at the buzzer, but the shot fell bounced off the rim to give Amherst its 20th victory of the season.

Burch led Skidmore with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Kasdin and T.C. Coleman added 13 a piece to the Thoroughbred effort.

This is the fourth straight game that Wilson has surpassed the 30+ point mark as he moves into second place on Amherst's all-time leading scoring list with 1,489 career points. Junior John Pavelski added 25 points, 8 boards and two blocks for the Jeffs.
