Andrew Black scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Colby past Amherst 81-67. The Mules mounted an 8-0 run midway through the first half to pull away from the Jeffs toward an 11-point lead at the break.
Colby held the lead at 11 until the Jeffs made a 10-0 run over four minutes in the second half behind the defensive pressure of Chris Akers and John Pavelski. Pavelski registered six steals, 10 rebounds and a career high 31 points to lead the Jeffs. But Amherst foul trouble took Akers and Jamal Wilson out of the game and sent the Mules to the line 22 times in the last ten minutes to secure the win.
Colby, the top ranked team in New England, betters its record to 12-2 while the Jeffs fall to 11-2 after an eleven-game win streak.
