Amherst Takes Two from Tufts

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst came from behind in the 7th inning of both games towards two wins over Tufts. Erica Maurer (Wayside, NJ) led off the 4th inning of game one for Tufts and scored on an RBI single by Kara Murphy (Canton, MA). Amherst's Darcy Sweeney (Keene, NH) reached base in the bottom of the 7th on a Jumbo error, to score two batters later on a double by Melissa Roja (Los Altos Hills, CA). Pitcher Allison Schwarting drove Roja home for the game winner with a single.

Game two mimicked its predecessor as Tufts had a pair of doubles by Carrie Hironaka (Honolulu, HI) and Shelley Pedersen (Norwich, CT), both two scored in the top of the 6th. Sarah Rinaldi (Washington, DC) led off the bottom of the 7th with a hit anan (Lincoln, MA) sent a homer over the centerfield wall to tie the game at 2 runs a piece.

The teams continued to battle in extra innings until Rinaldi let loose a triple into deep centerfield. Feldman lined a shot to second-base to score Rinaldi for the game-winner.

Amherst betters its record to 20-4 while Tufts falls to 24-8-1. Amherst will travel to Mount Holyoke on Wednesday and then to Williams for a doubleheader on Saturday.
