Schwarting Named NESCAC Player of the Week for Second Time

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Allison Schwarting (Los Angeles, CA), a pitcher for Amherst College Softball, was named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the second straight time for games ending April 14, 1997. The righthander compiled a 4-0 record in the team's six win week. In 23.0 innings, Schwarting struck out 24 batters while allowing only 14 hits, including two one-hit shutouts against Wesleyan and Western New England College. The rookie leads the league with a 0.97 ERA.

Schwarting also proved to be a threat at the plate as she went 7-19 for the week to better her average to .345. While batting in four runs, she scored six, helped out by two of her team-leading 13 stolen bases.

Amherst Softball currently boasts a 14-4 record after a 2-1 loss to Coast Guard last night in eight innings. The Jeffs will host Tufts in a doubleheader at Hill Field, starting at 3:30pm on Friday.
