AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Three spring teams received bids to their respective ECAC Championships to be played at the end of this week. Both men's and women's lacrosse will host quarterfinal games on Wednesday while softball will travel to Clark for a first-round game.
Finishing the season with a 9-4 record, women's lacrosse earned the No. 3 seed and will host Bowdoin at 4:30pm. The Jeffs peaked with a No. 3 ranking early in the season and currently stand at No. 14 according to the April 28 IWLCA/Brine Poll. Senior Tri-Captain Kate Sullivan (Exeter, NH) leads the team with 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 points, followed by juniors Heather Kestner (Wilmington, DE) and Heidi Cline (Andover, MA), both with 36 points (26-10 and 25-11, respectively). Molly Auth (Longmeadow, MA) has been steady in goal with a .627 save percentage as the Jeffs have outscored their opponents 156-83 this season.
Men's lacrosse earned their third straight ECAC Tournament bid as the No. 4 seed, who will host Connecticut College at 4:00pm. This game is a rematch of last year's ECAC Championship game where the Camels prevailed 7-6 in New London, Connecticut. However, the teams have already met once this season with the Jeffs exacting revenge with a 7-6 victory at home. With a 9-3 record, the Jeffs are currently No. 15 on the USILA Division III polls. Senior Tri-Captain Stephen Carr (Concord, MA) leads Amherst and the NESCAC in scoring as he averages close to five-points-per-game.
In only their third year as a varsity team, softball has posted a 21-4 record to earn a No. 5 seed for their first post-season appearance. Rookie Allison Schwarting (Los Angeles, CA) has been critical to the success of the squad as the team's second-best hitter and ace from the mound. The right-hander currently boasts a 1.09 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 104.2 innings. From the plate, Schwarting has 29 hits for a .362 average with 18 stolen bases. Leading the Jeffs is Sarah Rinaldi (Washington, DC) with a .395 batting average and 23 RBI.
