AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst claimed its sixth win of the season with a 3-1 victory over NESCAC rival Trinity on Hitchcock Field. While the Jeffs scored in the 13th minute when junior Matt Diggs (Seattle, WA) beat his defender to the goal, Trinity turned up the offense midway through the game, forcing Jeff keeper Kevin Larner (Short Hills, NJ) to make 7 saves in 70 minutes.
The Jeffs scored a go-ahead goal after knocking the ball around the box and finally to the feet of Devin Talbott (Washington, DC). Senior Co-Captain Tim Christian (Agawam, MA) added a third score off a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
The Bantams put themselves on the board late in the game as rookie Caley Iandiorio (Wayland, MA) sent a cross to senior David Aucoin (North Attleboro, MA) for the score. Trinity leveled 12 shots on the Jeff net for the day.
Amherst betters its record to 6-0-1 as the No. 1 team in New England, No. 5 in the nation. The Jeffs next travel to Springfield College for a 1:00pm meeting on Sunday, while the Bantams next see action at 1:30pm Sunday at Tufts. Trinity is now 3-3-1 for the season as the sixth best team in the Metro region.
