Women's Tennis Edges out UMass under Night Skies
Darkness had already fallen before the cross-town rivals had settled their women's tennis face-off. Laura Keith '99 (Wayzata, MN) was tied with Marie-Christine Caron at one set a piece when they started a grueling third set. In the end, Keith prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to seal Amherst victory, 5-3.
The No. 1 singles match between Pam Diamond '99 (Trumbull, CT) and Ola Gezisomanvia had to be called off in the second set since neither player could see the ball. However, the tough-nosed play of Neely Steinberg '99 (Concord, MA) and Co-Captain Susanne Santola '97 (Summit, NJ) lead the team with their double-wins in both singles and doubles against the Minutewomen. Keith and Santola are still undefeated in singles play, while the team of Diamond-Steinberg is 6-0 in doubles.
