For the first time all season, women's soccer gave up a gola, this time on the road and before the Jeffs had scored themselves. But while this defensive miscommunication marred the first half, Amherst demonstrated their talent in the second.
Laura Kochansky '98 (Newton, MA) sent a long ball into to Katie Connelly '00 (East Granby, CT) in the 59th minute. Beating her lone defender, Connelly approached the goal and slotted in the equalizer. Just four minutes later, the Amherst pressure was still strong in the box, as Katie Missett '99 (Palo Alto, CA) took a hard shot, deflecting off Charger goalie Laura Ferullo. Waiting for the rebound was Jen Havlik '00 (McLean, VA) to score the winning goal.
The Jeffs travel to Maine to face Bowdoin College on Saturday. Last year, the two powerhouses split their two games, the Polar Bears taking the regular season matchup, but the Jeffs advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament on a 1-0 victory at Amherst. Though this will be a tough game, the increased intensity and aggression exhibited by the Jeffs in their second half bodes well for the top-ranked team in New England.
