Facing Five College rival Smith on Amherst's soggy Hitchcock Field proved to be tougher than the Jeffs had expected. Even though Amherst dominated the offense,their hard-hit shots were deflected, blocked or saved by the Pioneers packing the box with defenders.
But in the 74th minute, the Jeffs found a hole in the Smith defense. Regional All American Shaunette Richards '98 sent a slow lob toward the net. With a quick flick of the neck, Laura Kochansky '98 redirected the ball into the left corner for the Jeffs' first goal of the season.
Katie Hersey '99 finalized the win off a corner kick in the 88th minute.
