    Season Preview:

Amherst will once again follow the lead of number-one singles player Jamie Cohen ’01. A two-time All-American from Rye, N.Y., Jamie has had an incredible career thus far at the helm of the women’s tennis team. Having a spectacular number one has set the tone for the Amherst team and allowed them a NCAA Final Four finish in 1998 and the National Championship in 1999. During the team competition at the NCAA Championship, Jamie went undefeated against several of the best players in the nation to lead her team to the title.

Juniors Carolyn Pastel and Jamie Cohen will have their hands full as they help rebuild the team after the graduation of All-American Pam Diamond and 1999 NCAA Singles Champion Neely Steinberg. Returning along with Pastel and Cohen will be sophomores Stephanie Fong, Heather Cole, Vasilissa Kozoulina, and Sanwaree Sethi. Stephanie Fong (Los Altos, CA) and Heather Cole (Pikesville, MD) gained valuable playing experience during the 1998-99 year and will be relied heavily upon during the 1999-2000 campaign. Lone senior Kristen Ogdon will return to captain the talented squad. Ogdon’s loyalty and intensity are a constant motivating force for her teammates.

The team will look to hear much from new faces Susanna Burke (St. Louis, MO) and Paige Lawrence (Katy, TX). Ashton Kienke (Wayzata, MN) and Roopali Agrawal from Phillips Andover will also be vying for top six positions.

    Coach: Jackie Bagwll
