Beaumont '03 Ties School Record as Jeffs
Cruise to 20-4 win over Springfield
Amherst rookie scores four goals, assists on five others as
Jeffs win fourth-straight

AMHERST, Mass. -- Amherst College
freshman Erin Beaumont (Summit, NJ) scored four goals and
assisted on five others, as host Amherst College, ranked third
in the nation in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches
Association (IWLCA) poll, cruised to their fourth win of the season
with a 20-4 thrashing of visiting Springfield College on Tuesday.
One week to the day after setting a new school
record with 12 goal scorers in a 20-5 win over Smith College,
Jeffs saw 11 different players find the back of the net. Junior
midfielder Kristin Osborn (Morristown, NJ), who was named the
NESCAC Player of the Week on Monday, got the scoring started 46
seconds into the game, rifling a shot past Springfield goalie
Molly Arey (Severna Park, MD) for her league-best 16th goal of
the season. Senior Co-captains Rachel Bernstein (Maplewood, NJ)
and Alie Stechenberg (Longmeadow, MA) teamed up 70 seconds later
to put the Jeffs up 2-0, and the Jeffs rattled off seven more
goals, including two more from Stechenberg, before Pride sophomore
Marci Mullady (West Hartford, CT) put the visitors on the board
at the 10:10 mark.
Beaumont got on the board at the 8:51 mark
to put the Jeffs up 10-1, and the freshman set up classmate Laura
Schifter (Washington, DC) one minute later for the final Amherst
goal of the period. Springfield scored just before halftime to
cut the Amherst lead to 11-2, but Beaumont picked up right where
she left off in the second half, scoring the Jeffs' first two
goals of the period and assisting on the third. After sophomore
Meg Martin (Longmeadow, MA) scored off a Stechenberg feed, Beaumont
played a part in the next three Amherst goals, assisting on two
and scoring on a feed from classmate Anne Jaimeson (Princeton,
NJ), finishing her day with an assist on the Jeffs' last goal,
a nifty one-timer by senior Katherine Poulin (St. David's, PA).
Beaumont's nine points matches a school record,
the fifth different Amherst scoring record set in the Jeffs' first
four games, as Amherst improves to 4-0 with the win, heading into
Saturday's showdown at Connecticut College, one of the two teams
to defeat the NCAA Finalists during the 1999 season. Poulin finished
the game with four assists to go along with her late goal, Stechenberg
finished with a hat trick and an assist, and sophomore Cara Coscarelli
(West Hartford, CT) added two goals and two assists. The Pride
(2-2) return home for Thursday night's home opener against Plymouth
State College.
