Men's Basketball Improves To 3-1 With 86-65 Win
Jeffs Blow Open A Five-Point Game At Halftime With Sharp Second-Half Shooting

AMHERST, Mass. - The Amherst men's basketball team broke open what had been a close game early in the second half to cruise to a 86-65 win over Babson College, improving to 3-1 on the season.
The Babson Beavers jumped out to a quick 21-14 lead early in the first half behind a swarming defense that led to 13 Amherst turnovers in the half. The Lord Jeffs used an 11-0 run to get back into the game, and after Babson knotted the game at 29, the Jeffs went on an 8-0 run to take a 39-34 lead into the half. In the second half, freshman point guard Ryan Faulkner (Lebanon, NH) provided a spark off the bench with his slashing style. Faulkner dished out six assists over a 13-2 run midway through the second to give the Jeffs a 61-45 lead. Babson did not help their cause by shooting only 30% from the field in the second half, and by losing the battle on the boards 49-31.
Five Jeffs scored in double figures, led by senior guard Hugh Quattlebaum's (Andover, MA) 19 points and 6 rebounds on 8 for 10 shooting. Chris Smith (Swarthmore, PA) and Pat Mulvey (Rye, NH) added 12 points apiece, and Jackson Collins (Brooklyn, NY) dominated the glass with 14 boards. Brian McCarthy (East Sandwich, MA) led the Beavers with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Amherst improves to 3-1 with the win, while Babson drops to 2-5. Amherst will next play at Westfield St. on Saturday afternoon.
