What's new

August 22Added the entirety of William S. Tyler's A History of Amherst College During the Administrations of Its First Five Presidents. Deleted a bunch of defunct pages, such as my Ann Arbor page and my movies-recently-seen page.
June 8Added a new picture of my nephew, Ben.
June 3-5Added the entirety, not yet proofread, of Max Shoop's Sabrina, The Class Goddess of Amherst College.
May 29Started adding bits of Tyler's A History of Amherst College In Its First Half-Century.
May 8If you haven't noticed, I've stopped updating this page as much as I used to. I've spent a lot of time working on the Biographical Record, with fantastic help from Sandy Konigmacher. I'm slowly working on a database to handle the poetry and stuff on my website, but that's very much "in progress." Today I added a picture of my nephew, Ben.
Apr. 1Uploaded a revision of the Amherst College Biographical Record. The Classes of 1826 and 1827 are now online (thanks largely to the help of Sandra Konigmacher). Also, I revised the format of the name index (putting it into bulleted format and setting students' names in boldface), and improved the quality of the HTML (forced doublespaces after sentences; disallowed most breaks in multiple-letter abbreviations; changed &'s to &'s, etc.) Also, programmed my database to automate quite a few functions, so that data entry is easier and revisions are less of a pain to make.
Mar. 17Added one Eugene Field poem, The Rock-a-By Lady.
Mar. 16Changed the Amherst College Biographical Record index of student names into a combined name index, which now gives the names of students, students' parents, students' wives, students' children, and students' fathers-in-law.
Mar. 15Added 17 poems by Rupert Brooke, completing the section of poems from 1908-1911.
Mar. 13Used Access to create a hypertext index of surnames in the Amherst College Biographical Record (with hyperlinks to the hypertext index of students).
Mar. 12Used Access to separate the hypertext index of students in the Amherst College Biographical Record into 25 pieces (by letter; no surnames beginning with X exist).
Mar. 11Used Access to create a hypertext index of students in the Amherst College Biographical Record (in one 764k piece!!)
Mar. 10Used Access to create two indexes of students in the Amherst College Biographical Record: one in PDF format and one in plaintext format (plus one in zipped plaintext format).
Feb. 20-Mar. 9Created a Microsoft Access database to hold Biographical Record data. Entered the names of the Amherst College Classes of 1851-1924 (except for 1894 and 1895, which I'd already done).

What was new in February.
