• Google! The best damned search engine in the world. Check it out.
  
• Yahoo! Proof positive that the Internet grows too quickly to be hand-indexed.
  
• Hotbot. The search engine I used to use before I found Google.
  
• AltaVista. Best feature: submit a page today, and it's in the index tomorrow.
  
• Lycos.
  
• Infoseek.
  
• Excite.

Meta-web search engines:

• Inference find.
  
• Dogpile.
  
• Metafind.

News search engine:

• DejaNews.

Domain name/IP address lookup services:

• Network Solutions WHOIS.
  
• Reverse domain name lookup. When you don't feel like using nslookup.
  
• Internet domain name search engine. I really haven't used this, but it seems like a neat idea.

Other things:

• GIF Wizard. What a cool service! Even if you don't pay them to shrink your website images for you, it at least tells you which ones are bloated (so you can fix them yourself).
  
• The University of Indiana finger server ("with faces"). When you don't feel like logging into your shell account.
