Eric Wubbels - (Assistant Director emeritus 2001-02)

Eric Wubbels (b.1980) is a Virginia-born composer and pianist, based in New York since 2003. His studies have taken him from Amherst College (B.A. 2001), to UC-San Diego (studies with Roger Reynolds), to Columbia University, where he is currently pursuing his doctorate in composition. His principal teachers have been Lewis Spratlan, Roger Reynolds, and Fred Lerdahl, and he has participated in masterclasses with Tristan Murail, Jonathan Harvey, Michael Jarrell, Toshio Hosokawa, and Chaya Czernowin. His music has been performed in venues such as Miller Theater, the Knitting Factory, and St. Paul's Chapel in New York, the Zeitgeist Gallery, Keller Room, and Qing Ping Gallery in Boston, and throughout the Northeast, as well as in San Diego, England, and Hungary. As a pianist, he has performed in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Jordan Hall in Boston, Merkin Concert Hall, and in Hungary and Brazil. He performs in the electronics duo The Disembodied Head of Peter Ladefoged (with composer Jeff Snyder), based on his research into acoustic phonetics, and is the host of Afternoon New Music on WKCR-FM. He has been a member of the Wet Ink Collective since 2005.
