Death by Core Drill
A core drill is used to cut a cylinder of material out of something. We figured this would be a very final way to kill our hard drives, so our local construction group helped us out.

It took a while, but the core drill eventually made it through the drive. The water used to reduce sparks in the drill almost made it look as if the drive was bleeding ;)

The core drill cut clean through the hard drive and left a crescent moon shaped result in its stead. You can actually see all of the platters still perfectly shaped inside the case in a sandwich-like view. We are certain that this drive is effectively dead and the data secured, especially since the platters have a huge chunk cut out of them :) The core drill actually kept the sawed off part of the drive intact, although we don't have any pictures of that yet. We're not entirely certain if some covert government agency could reconstruct the platters from the two portions of the hard drive. To prevent that, we are keeping the pieces seperate like our very own triforce (although this would probably be a di-force).
