I am a scholar and saxophonist in the Music Department at Amherst College. I joined the faculty in Fall 2008 as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music after having taught several years in Music and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, San Diego and in African American Studies at the University of California, Irvine. My teaching and research roughly correspond with the fields of jazz and popular music; my work focuses on improvised music and experimentalism in African American and African diasporic music.
