Habitat for Humanity

Students lay boards for painting.Welcome

The Amherst College Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is a student run organization dedicated to working on local Habitat for Humanity projects and promoting low cost housing.  The group is currently focused on a unique project that involves building four low cost housing units on three acres of land donated by Amherst College.

Working closely with Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, the Amherst College Chapter started work on the first housing unit in September 2006 and hopes to finish one house a year for four years.  Aided by the valuable experience of volunteers from the local community, Amherst College students will supply much of the labor for the project.  The Amherst College Habitat for Humanity hopes the Amherst Project will serve as a blueprint for future cooperatives between institutes of higher education and local Habitat chapters.
