BILL STEKL
Head coach Bill Stekl is enjoying his eighteenth year at the helm of the Amherst College Crew Team.
In that time, his crews have been perennial medal-winners at the New England Championships and New
England Fours Regattas. 2002 was a breakout year for his women, as they won the WV4+ at the national
Avaya Collegiate Rowing Championships (now ECAC), the New England Fours Women's points trophy, and the
team won the New England Fours Overall points trophy. In 2003, his men's varsity 4 won the Rimmele Cup
and made the finals at the ECAC National Invitational, two feats no Amherst men's crew had previously
accomplished. More recently in 2006, his Men's Varsity 4 won the New England Fours Championships, and
the Men's team won the New England Fours Men's Points Trophy.
He is coming off one of his most successful seasons ever, and looks forward to building on that
success. He may be contacted by phone at (413) 542-2323, or by e-mail at

DAVE THOMAS
Assistant coach Dave Thomas recently graduated from and coached for Bowdoin College. This is his fourth year at Amherst. He currently coaches the novice men's and women's team while simultaneously working as a boat engineer for WinTech Racing. In spring of 2007, his first novice women's four and the second novice women's four won gold medals at the New England Fours Championships.
We are extremely lucky to have an assistant coach whose knowledge of rowing is matched, if not outdone
by his vast knowledge of boat hydro-dynamics.
