Besides weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, parties and other
simchas, Generation Klez is also available for special concerts and educational
programs.
The Klezmer World
Generation Klez weaves the captivating tale of Klezmer
music in this concert. Their musical performance is interspersed with
fascinating anecdotes and insights about the music, culture and people that
created the Klezmer world. From the earliest recordings of Belf’s Rumanian
Orchestra to the dance halls of Dave Tarras, Generation Klez both plays the
music and tells the stories behind it.
A Yiddish Chassene
Music accompanied every aspect of the Eastern European
wedding ceremony. From the gasn nigun, used to gather the wedding guests
from their homes, to the kale b’veynen, intended to bring the bride to
tears before the ceremony, to the broyges tantz, the dance of anger and
reconciliation between the mothers of the couple, music played an integral role
in the traditional Yiddish wedding. Generation Klez recreates this mesmerizing
music, and provides insight into the rituals it accompanied in A Yiddish
Chassene.
Join the Kapelya
In this program, intended for youth music ensembles of all sizes and styles, you do the playing. Generation Klez begins with an introduction to Klezmer music and a mini-concert. A single Klezmer tune then becomes the focus of a master-class run by members of the band. In group sectionals, Generation Klez helps students to incorporate Klezmer techniques and style into their playing. When the group reconvenes, Generation Klez joins the students in a culminating performance, often for an audience of parents, teachers and other students.
