Lab excercise:

Athough the blackboard chat will work for the lab excercise I feel that using AOL instant messenger would be a much easier tool. The interface for the virtual classroom in blackboard is a bit hard to get use to and a little unnatural, one due to the fact that the text can be put anywhere on the board. Second, you don't know who is writing what unless everyone using a different color text and then it can just be difficult to set up and implement. AOL on the other hand is something that I am sure the students are already familiar with and it is probably something they use daily therefore having do a homework lab excercise would be no problem. Also, just like in blackboard using AOL you have the ability to set up a group chat room just for them. AOL takes care of displaying who is saying what and you can save the entire chat for later review.
