AMHERST, Mass. –The Amherst College Lord Jeffs narrowly defeated the Western New England College Golden Bears, 11-8, after WNEC decreased the Jeffs’ seven run lead to three in the seventh inning.

	Amherst was led by junior SS Jordan Krall (Encino, CA), who broke a 2-2 tie when he hit a perfect centerfield homer for a grand slam in the third. The Jeffs had 11 hits in the game and started their offensive drive early in the first inning when Hugh Quattlebaum (Andover, MA) batted junior Dave Siegle (Falmouth, ME) in. Siegle had two runs for the game and Quattlebaum had a solid game with two runs, one RBI, two singles and a double. Sophomore Ryan Whitmarsh (Dalton, MA) also homered for the Jeffs and junior Jim Hochrein (Greenfield, MA) had 3 hits.
	First year Jonah Ansell (Oak Park, IL) was the winning pitcher for the Jeffs, striking out four players while giving up only six hits. Ansell relieved sophomore starting pitcher Andy Danielson (Avon, IN) and sophomore Dave Krauser (Short Hills, NJ) relieved Ansell late in the seventh. Krauser finished off the close game with five strikeouts. Sophomore Jeff catcher J.R. Drabick (Lebanon, NH) was also solid behind the plate this afternoon.
	For WNEC, seven different Golden Bears scattered hits through out the game with sophomore Andy Jolicouer (Easthampton, MA) and junior Kyle Snurkowski (Griswold, CT) leading the way for WNEC. Both players had two runs and one RBI each and they both contributed to WNEC’s comeback in the seventh inning. The comeback can also be attributed to the Golden Bears’ five hits in the seventh inning, the highest for either team. Junior pitcher Kurt Bernhard (Lawrenceville, NJ) played the entire game for WNEC and amassed 6 strikeouts while giving up 14 hits.
	The Jeffs’ record increases to 10-2 and they will next be in action this weekend at Trinity for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. Amherst will not return home until Sunday, April 9th for a noon doubleheader versus Colby. The Golden Bears’ record moves to 7-5 and they will return home to host Western Connecticut State University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
