Directions to Amherst College

• From the South (Hartford/Bradley Int'l Airport/New Haven/New York City, etc.) :
  1. I-91 North in Massachusetts, to Exit 19, right turn onto Route 9 East (cross bridge).
  2. Seven miles on Route 9 East until intersection of Route 9 and 116/South Pleasant Street (eighth traffic light at crest of large hill). You are now on the Amherst Campus.
• From the West (Albany):
  1. Mass Pike (I-90) East to Exit 4 (West Springfield/I-91). Take I-91 North.
  2. From I-91 follow directions from The South.
• From the North/Northwest (Williams/Middlebury/Dartmouth):
  1. I-91 South to Exit 25 (Route 116 South). Left turn onto Route 116 South.
  2. Route 116 South seven miles to Route 9 East/Route 116 South. Left turn onto Route 9 East.
  3. Route 9 East two miles to Route 116 South/South Pleasant Street (third light at crest of large hill). You are now on the Amherst Campus.
  4. From Williams (1 1/4 hours): I-91 South via Route 2 East (40 miles).
     From Dartmouth (2 hours): I-91 South in Vermont.
     From Middlebury (3 1/2 hours): I-91 South via Route 7 South to Route 103 South.
• From the East (Boston/Worcester/Providence):
  1. Mass Pike (I-90) West to Exit 4 (West Springfield/I-91). Follow directions from The South.
  2. OR this way, which is marginally faster
     1. Mass Pike (I-90) West Exit 8 (Palmer/U-Mass) to Route 181 North.
     2. The toll booth attendant will have directions to the University of Massachusetts.
     3. Route 181 North to Route 202 North (10 miles).
     4. Route 202 North to Route 9 West (1.5 miles).
     5. Route 9 West to Pleasant Street (9 miles).
  3. From Providence (2 hours): Route 146 to Route 20, Route 20 West to Mass Pike.
     Worcester: 1 hour.
     Boston: 2 hours.
  4. From the Northeast (Bates/Bowdoin/Colby/northern Boston suburbs):
     1. I-95 South to I-495 South
     2. I-495 to Exit 29B, Route 2 West (44 miles).
     3. Route 2 West to Route 202 South (42 miles)
     4. Route 202 South to Amherst Road (14 miles, at flashing yellow light). Right turn onto Amherst Road.
     5. Amherst Road to Pleasant Street (7 miles), left turn onto South Pleasant Street.
     6. Time from Colby College: 4 1/2 hours; Bates/Bowdoin Colleges: 3 1/2-4 hours.
