Senator’s name is Arshia, not Rasha or Asha. Saber instead of Sabba. Andre instead of Andrew. A.J. postponed the discussion, not Ryan. BC website instead of DC website. Online instead of on line. Class Council Chairs instead of Council Chair of Class. Sergeant at Arms instead of Sergeant in Arms. Tabling instead of tabled.

V Announcements

Andre: JC is holding a meeting open to the whole campus on Thursday 8 pm

Matt: first year election with table tents in Valentine. Meeting on Wednesday to discuss how to get signatures, next Monday another meeting for speech night.

Paris: BC is having a mandatory meeting for all club’s presidents and treasurers on Sunday

Luke: discussion with class limits and shopping classes with faculty( a meeting will be held)

Arshia: program board is sponsoring a movie night on the freshman quad, showing Matrix and Matrix Reloaded.

Alex: interested in being in charge of ordering food or planning meetings, taking over Mike’s role, e-mail me.

Mihailis: who is in charge of the T shirt?

Alex: e-mailed Mike, he is getting back to me.

Paris: I will be selling T-shirt for 20 dollars.

Constitution revision:

Matt: moves to postpone. Seconded. Vote: passed.

 

VII BC funding recommendation:

NEEDS NOTES FROM PARIS, HAS NOT E_MAILED TO ME!

 

Lincoln: motion to pass . seconded

Pem: why was the money not allocated for the Dean Howard Club?

Paris: inappropriate to give money to a political campaign.

Luke: As long as the allocation is done based on the merits of the activities.

Matt: moved to amend the BC funding to fund the Dean Howard Club.

Lincoln: we are not obliged to fund it though. We don’t want to set a bad example.

Ethan: not a contribution to a specific candidate.

Pem: all the stuff is for on campus publicity to educate voters.

Matt: to encourage people to become more informed.

Andre: similar precedents have already been set.

Luke: we want to encourage this type of activities.

Paris : the vote was 5 to 2, the activities are not just on campus.

Molibi: because of the specific candidate’s name, it’s not neutral and it does not educate people.

Lincoln: it sets a dangerous precedent.

AJ: the AAS should not back one candidate.

Ethan: education of people is a distortion of the truth. Pins and buttons are advertisement.

Moves to just fund the voter registration.

How much money does it cost?

Luke: do you know this is unconstitutional.

Christian: question is called.

Matt: objected.

Gabe: separate the issue of support of education and support of candidate.

Mihailis: there are more effective ways to get the message across.

Moves to amend to fund only 50 dollars to voter’s registration booth and for flyers.

Seconded. Luke: I will vote no. Dave: it does have merits on campus.

Ryan: slightly disappointed at people making decisions based on their political opinions.

Matt: called the question. Vote on amendment (Mihailis) : failed.

Dave: calls the questions. Lincoln: objected.

Lincoln: moves to postpone.

Dave: then you can’t pass the original BC recommendation.

Lincoln: withdraw my motion.

Justin: it sets a bad precedent.

Mira: called the question. No objection.

Rosalyn called the question on BC recommendation. Objected.

Luke: moves to amendment to increase funding to 1856 dollars for Day of Service

Paris: it has already happened. Addition to their original request is a nightmare.

Ryan: bad precedent to set.

Justin: where did the extra 500 dollars go?

Luke: we had more people than signed up.

Andre: what would happen if this is voted down?

Luke: I don’t know.

Molibi: we need to set a deadline.

Matt: it’s not Luke’s fault that more people came than he expected. Called the question.

Amendment passes.

Mihailis: amend to move the food budget to zero. Seconded.

Luke: to appreciate what people have done so we provided food in Converse. There is a reason to have food.

Ross: food can provide a people to have a good discussion on what they have done.

Molibi: precedents being set is not an argument.

Ethan: for Day of Service, food centers the nature of event.

Matt: called the question.

Objected.

Geoff: if food can get people together, then why can’t we use the food in Valentine.

Ethan: they are not going to Valentine.

Geoff: it’s not a justification for the money.

Matt: people are more prone to sit with their friends.

Paris: we can continue on with such precedents such as ISA dinner.

Mihailis: people do not mingle if they don’t want to no matter what kind of food there is.

Luke: the goal of the day is to encourage service. Called the question.

Mihailis withdrew the amendment.

Luke called the question on discussion on the BC recommendation.

Vote: Passed.

Constitutional Revision:

Andre: the debate on the constitution.

Paris: we can discuss the by law next time.

Elan: motion on the floor that is postponed.

Matt: amendment to cut the number of senators to five instead of eight.

Seconded.

Matt: by shrinking the size of senate can increase efficiency.

Rosalyn: if we have 20 senators then it will increase the responsibility of committees.

Matt: allow non-senators to participate in committees.

Andre: this is not connected with the revisions that we are doing now. It’s a larger debate should not be done now.

Mihailis: students do not care what the senate’s doing. We are not getting to the root of the problem.

Matt:withdraw my motion. No objection.

 

Move on the amendment by Lincoln. Seconded.

Lincoln: yield my time to Alex.

Alex: being a recording secretary is a huge responsibility. It was a voluntary position, but because of the time commitment, then it was made a paid position.

I already have a lot of responsibilities. This is the position that I ran for. I did not run for the position with this responsibility.

My proposal would let Elan hire the recording secretary.

Lincoln: I accept Alex’s proposal as a friendly amendment.

Molibi: I move to amend Lincoln’s amendment to agree with Alex’s proposal.

Lincoln: I accept it as friendly.

Mihailis: to further amend the amendment to un- strike 3 on Lincoln’s original amendment.

Geoff: moves to amend Molibi’s amendment with Lincoln’s original amendment sub section 6.

Seconded. Luke : called the discussion.

Vote on Geoff’s amendment: passes.

Roz called the question on original amendment. Objected.

Luke called the question.

Vote: passes.

Ethan: moved to strike the second part of 4 on the amendment. Seconded.

Ethan: called the discussion. Objected.

Paris: why don’t we change the bylaws?

Luke: called the question. Vote: passes.

 

Matt: called the question on voting on the constitution revision.

Objected.

Paris: it’s a nightmare for clubs to make fall budgets in march.

Roz: called the question.

Mira: I have no idea how to write the letter. I want someone to help me.

Mihailis: ask Ryan if he would write the letter,

Ryan: I accept.

Geoff: create a committee to help Ryan. ( 5 senators) report back in two months

Seconded. Luke: encourage people to do things without bringing it into the senate.

Matt: called the question.
