SGO MINUTES DECEMBER 10, 2001
Didn’t make quorum, 21 present
HONOR SYSTEM
Julie: We are re working the honour system, new system in place for ’04 and ’05, basically it will be harder
Lincoln: should alert the grad schools of the changes.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SGO MEETINGS
Ben Baum: (see hardcopy of SGO minutes for handout from Ben Baum,) suggestions that we can discuss, first two suggestions have been implemented. Third suggestion is we need some parliamentary procedure, need to have a workshop perhaps, review procedure,
Michelle: Dean Haynes, we should implement something basic for next semester like Robert Rules of Order.
Ben Baum: should have documentation of resolutions we passed, starting meetings on time.
Jun: appreciate emails being sent of the minutes, Jun doesn’t think that we should have
printed minutes all the time.
Amy: Went to meeting of faculty, they vote to approve their minutes, is that something that we should consider doing at our meetings?
Mike: Committees that I am on also approve their meetings, if we are to do that, then we should have printed copies.
Michelle: Since we are all not sure, we will discuss it later/
TEMPORARY SFC CHAIR
Blake: Did a blurb of what he hopes to accomplish as chair of SFC and how he will be acting on constitution as opposed to precedence. Thanks senate for support.
COLLEGE COUNCIL PROJECT
Eric: College Council project wants to bring back college formals. Has been trying to find funding, has funding from program board and SoCo, alumni office can help with funding if the project has SGO support., SFC discretionary, president’s office, going to take it to outside options ie. Corporate sponsorship
Marisol: Is it going to be affordable
Eric: the point of this is to raise enough money for it to be affordable, hoping to raise about $18,000
Marisol: if we are supporting it, we want to know what corporations are sponsoring it.
Eric: well it has to be approved by the administration anyway.
Dave: agrees with Marisol
Jun: maybe we should send out a survey among the students, poll the idea of a formal,
DISCUSSIONS ON REWORKING SFC OVER INTERTERM
Jun: (see SGO hardcopy of minutes for handout from Jun) people presently holding positions should make a recommendations of how things are conducted as a reference for future position holders.
Mike: according to Jun’s proposal the 2 student members don’t need them because they can bring their issues to the forum.
Mike: could people start working on it during interterm
Michelle: we can keep in contact through email, jun just put together an informal committee
Dave: can the 2 student members sit ex-officio
Jun: SGO can’t effectively assess SGO, need an outside view, only have 2 so that
conversation does not get bogged down with explaining.
Mike: we don’t need to deal with the actual make up of the committee, just to informal work over interterm and this group of people do not have any connection to the formal committee that we will make.
NEW PROJECTS FOR UPCOMING SEMESTER
Amy: brought up 2 major points at the retreat (1)basic phone service (2)athletics, club sports at Amherst.
Funding of club sports at Amherst is a problem, want to get a group of people together to talk about this, basically form a think tank
Meet with Amy after the meeting if you would like to be on the committee.

Jesse Freedman, Ben Baum and Bob Razavi are going abroad, need to hold the appropriate elections.
