EDITOR'S NOTE:
Sweeney hired on as the pitching coach at Division I UMass after five-years as an assistant at Amherst College under world-renowned pitching authority Bill Thurston. For the past two summers, Sweeney has been the manager of the Keene (N.H.) Swampbats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. His team won the NECBL Championship and Sweeney was named Manager/Coach of the Year in 2003. He played three years of professional baseball with two of them coming in the New York Mets organization and is a close personal friend of Amherst Mickey Mantle coach Kevin Graber.
