2005 Amherst Mickey Mantle Baseball Philosophy

Mickey Mantle

Players who love to work at and learn the game are essential to the success of our program. We expect them to be focused, receptive to learning and willing to make adjustments to help prepare for a future in high school and college-level competition - and perhaps beyond. Players should arrive at practices and games eager to work on proper techniques, with a plan for what they’d like to accomplish each day. Players gain satisfaction from improvement and competing as part of a well-organized unit. We pay close attention to the quality and attitude of our players and look for those who are smart, aggressive and have confidence in themselves and in the team.

Winning, having fun and improving our skills are byproducts of this philosophy:

1) Having highly organized, efficient practices.
2) Concentrating on proper techniques and fundamentals.
3) Working harder, competing harder and being more self-disciplined than our opponents.
4) Believing that paying attention to detail by focusing on the job at hand (the mental aspects of the game) does make a difference.
5) Knowing what it takes to win, how to compete in clutch situations and not to fear failure.
6) We will always respect, but never fear, an opponent.
