Amherst Grabs Seven All-America Honors at NCAA ChampionshipsFrom a USTFCCCA Release May 30, 2007 AMHERST, MA – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the members of the Division III All-America Team for outdoor track and field yesterday, with Amherst College receiving seven All-America honors. The top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Division III Championships earn All-America honors. Senior tri-captain Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the NCAA Championships, as she grabbed a trio of All-America honors with victories in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase, 5,000-Meter Run and 10,000-Meter Run. Garrahan accounted for 30 of Amherst’s 41 points, and was named the Most Outstanding Athlete of the weekend. Sophomore Elise Tropiano (Plainview, NY) also took part in the Steeplechase, 5k and 10k, grabbing All-America honors with seventh-place finishes in the Steeplechase and 10k. Junior Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) marked the third Amherst runner to earn a top-eight finish in the 10k, as she placed just ahead of Tropiano in sixth place. Rounding out the Amherst competitors was senior tri-captain Maria Millard (Orono, ME), who placed fifth in the 400-Meter Hurdles to give the Jeffs their final four points of the competition, securing a fourth-place finish. 2007 DIVISION III WOMEN’S OUTDOOR ALL-AMERICA TEAM 3,000-Meter Steeplechase 5,000-Meter Run 10,000-Meter Run 400-Meter Hurdles
