Jeffs Break Through with Doubleheader Sweep of Fredonia March 20, 2007 FORT MYERS, FL - The Amherst College baseball team rebounded from an 0-3 start with a lopsided doubleheader sweep over Fredonia State on Tuesday, winning the opener 15-4 and the nightcap 13-4. The Jeffs (2-3) combined for 32 hits, 13 of which belonged to senior Jared Banner (Brooklyn, NY) and junior Neal Allar (Floyds Nobs, IN). Banner was a perfect 8-for-8 with three doubles, four RBIs and a pair of runs in the twin-bill sweep, while Allar’s 5-for-7 day included a grand slam, a double, 10 RBIs and five runs scored. First-year Teddy Blank (Waban, MA) (1-0) picked up his first collegiate pitching win in the opener, surrendering four runs on seven hits while fanning six in six complete innings. Sophomore southpaw Ryan Platzbecker (Westlake, ON) (1-0) drew the start and picked up the win in Game 2, scattering three runs on six hits before giving way to sophomore Ben Goldfarb (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) in the seventh. Amherst continues its Florida swing Wednesday at noon against Babson College. |
